Awakenings

The incessant ticking of the hallway clock
Marks the escape of another hour
Existing in the fringe

What is, what’s more
what could be
dance about
amongst the haze of dwindling midnights

Untouched sheets await the warmth of me
And my daytime creature lurks
Pacing among the remnants of clothes
Shed long ago, while working within the corporate machine

My fervor, now dispersed among cooled coffee
Scattered papers and limping fingers unthoughtfully strewn
Across a worn keyboard
Refuse the calling of nightly slumber.

How they rebel against my own senses
In search of the right words, the right rhythm, the right stuff.
