Junebugs

Standing at this plate glass window,
Watching the junebugs crash,
Headfirst without a clue,
Lying there on their backs,
Trying to figure out what happened,
Oblivious to the course of their lives,
This won’t be the first,
Or the last of their suicidal dives.

Such stupid creatures they are,
Thinking they are invincible,
Ramming the walls over and over,
I stand here invisible,
Tears streaming down my face,
Anger bursts from within,
I relate to this course of action,
This is somewhere I’ve been.

Helpless to get up,
But their legs keep moving with hope,
Destined to struggle endlessly,
Tying a noose without any rope.
Pity turns to understanding,
Stubbornness turns to relation,
You’re just like me,
Don’t give up, my little friend.

  • Nothingbetter, this piece was adorable! :) I like how you related yourself to the junebugs. At first I thought it was kind of sad but the way you ended it made it so hopeful! I loved it! "Don't give up my little friend." :) Never give up! :)

I saw a Junebug just the other day, in Montana it's a rare find, but we've had plenty of rain this season and Montana's the greenest I've ever seen it.

Junebugs are a sign of a healthy environment. I think they're beautiful, as they're harmless and shiny.

    And I like shiny things.

    Nice poem Nothing Better.
I looked out my porch and was AMAZED to see all the lightening bugs.I had to write.Theyre so beautiful....but youre poem is quite relative to life and a persons overcoming destinies of doubt.

    NICE:)

Hey Ali, if I may ask, I was wondering where you are from? I've only seen fireflies/lightning bugs once in my life, if it wasn't for them smashing into the car's windshield the memory might have been even more remarkablely amazing...

But I can't remember where that was... I think it was on the way to summertown, BC Canada...

Reason I ask is that someday I am going to meet someone remarkable and want to share something like that with them.

I'm from Trenton,Nj...Hamilton Twsp actually.A suburb right along the border of Trenton.
When I sit on my porch at night,we have an empty small field next to us,
and the fireflies just illuminate the whole area.It was funny...I was actually sitting on my porch talking out loud to them, and one flew on my hand, just to say HI!!!!I remember when I was young with my grandmother, just putting them into a jar, using them as my flashlight, them letting them go.It was an amazing experience! You can find them all over Jersey, usually,in hot, humid weather, near grass and woods:)I agree it would be wonderful to share with someone:)
    See ya Nast:)

  • We have many fireflies here as well. Junebugs are shiny...but you'll be singing a different tune when they run into you constantly, then grip on to you. They are nasty.

Thanks for the compliment, Ali :)

Wow, how could a poem about Junebugs encompass so many emotions..
    Very interesting work!
BTW- we have Junebugs in Calif. and they are my single greatest fear, those evil little legs of theirs cling on to you and wont let go. :(

Wow. This is about the only relation we get from you and the Junebugs actions. But it's all I needed, to release all the emotional tension that builds up earlier, that I just believed was pointless, non-metephorical poem on junebugs! lol. It's immense man, I Fucking Love it!

eden - thanks for your kind words :) Yes, they are gross. Yes, they NEVER let go :( So gross.

The Indifferent - Thanks :) Yeah, the majority of my writing is metaphorical. I love metaphors and relating things.

Here, we have moths the size of robins...

    And they do bite...

It's a pain much like that of a bee sting...

To see a moth that size though is always amazing. Sure they're not butterflies but they may as well be, they're vampire butterflies...

That's interesting. Never heard of meat eating moths.
