Untouchable Painting

The canvas of serenity,
Gently lays itself upon my eyes,
As I take in the colors and trace every line.
I make out the shape of a mother and child,
Caught for eternity in a moment,
That defies this world.

The moisture of a tear battles the wall of my ego,
Finding its way to the edge of my eye,
Slowly making its way down my cheek,
Falling perfectly in the container of my heart.

Echoes of the past grow silent,
Unwilling to fight the indomitable spirit,
That consumes this vision.

Life will never be the same.

    I was just staring at a picture of my wife holding my 6 week old son...and it hit me.

    What a line, what a way to describe your emotion. Don't laugh, but not knowing (when I first read it), that it was about your wife and child, I thought you were describing a painting of The Madonna and Child.

    Which, actually....you were.

    The poem is open to anyone's interpretation, but it was based off of a picture of my wife and son. If it means something special to someone else, all the better!
