Past Sunsets

when you asked me to run for help
I ran to the edge of the earth for you
when you asked me to leave you alone
I left you alone in your room
until you were ready to come out to the sunlight again

what you did in there is your business
whether you thought us out or came to terms
that you're not perfect for today's society
no one will ever know

When you felt like shit
I told you how great you were
when you wanted to end all of it
I held your hand and gave you my all
I gave and gave you all of me
but your head got loose and looked away
towards a brighter body
towards a prettier figure

when you called me up to say your last goodbye
you hung us up and went on without me, with someone else
after all our struggles, you felt happier with someone new
you used me as much as I loved you
you used me to make you feel confident
confident enough to turn your back on me
and you left me alone

when I woke up today
the sun shone through the shades
the leaves are turning orange
and the grass is fading away
seems like this time last year
we held each other until sunset
but that'll never happen again
I tried to be a better me
In the end I looked like the rest of them.
