"Alright, you know... you know how you're uh, sometimes... maybe uh, ya smoke a little somethin', er, er, you're up late at night and... you get this great idea... and then uh, but you don't write it down and you wake up in the morning and... and you had this idea that all of a sudden it was like the key to the universe, like the world made sense. But then you woke up in the morning and you can't remember what it was. You had it all figured out at like four in the morning and... noon the next day you lost it, you know?

I, I, I didnt, I don't know what... if or what Perry Farrell was smokin' about 17 years ago but, uh, apparently he wrote down this great idea of Lollapalooza.

And, uh, it meant a lot to us and our band and, uh, a number of the bands we played with back in nineteeeen niiiinety... somethin'... uh... Ministry, Soundgarden, the Chili Peppers... Ice Cube... Lush... am I missin' anybodySoundgarden! Soundgarden... Ministry, Chicago and Al Jourgensen and that band... and a band called The Jesus And Mary Chain. We made a lot of friends that year that we still have today... We lost a few... But it's, uh, great to be here and see, uh, Mr. Perry Farrell with his great band... and, uh, to have it be here in, uh, such a great city like Chicago, this beautiful park and the skyline, this is really somethin' else.

    So, THANK YOU PERRY!

…seeing how many people we have here, ya know as much as music brought you here I’m absolutely certain a song or music cannot change the world. Absolutely positive of this. It can have a slight effect, it gets us through but it cannot change the world. BUT.. You all, this many people. It is determined, it is positive, it is proven that this many people can change …the world. How do we know? Because it is written, it is stitched in the fabric of our flag. It is welded into our Constitution, that the people have the right to make change. And not only the right but the responsibility to make change. You can hear this? Is this mic working? And this planet… You know there’s a time and a place for all of this, right? This kind of talk. But this HAS to be the time. It can’t get any worse. We can’t let it get any worse. This has to be the time. And we are right in the middle of America. And we have the power to change the WHOLE world, because America is a super power, right? You’re Americans, you can change the whole world. So this is the time… do you agree with me? Is this the PLACE? Thank you! Because I’m saying this stuff just to even remind myself.

It's so important--everyday we wake up, we're creating our memory. We have to create the best ones we can, even if for one day. Find your goals and take them one step at a time. Your happiness and control form responsibility. It takes work and you must do things yourself. Don't expect anyone else to do it for you. Don't feel sorry for yourself. I've learned that about myself. I once thought I was under the lion's paw but when I decided to take on more reponsibility, I became much more free.

The entire Shoe The Shoeless speech from Indio, CA 1993.

"I don't mean to be crude, but don't turn me into a jukebox and start sticking quarters up my ass." --Chicago 2 8/22/08

"Isn't it weird what parents always say to their kids...'You'll always be my son'...'Mom, I ain't a kid anymore, have you seen the size of my fucking bank account? Would you give me some respect?' Or the other thing, 'Have you seen the size of my...' (crowd goes crazy) Mom, I ain't your little boy anymore!...I was saying guitar, what did you think I was saying? Actually, this one's very small! (laughter) George, quick, I need the biggest guitar back there! Get me the 12 string! Get me the bass!"--Chicago 1, 8/21/08

I liked the Ed quote on the Canadian '05 tour.
Something along the lines of "Canada, you look so beautiful when you're drunk!"

    love that one.

    also, 'fuck the pessimists'.
The world is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you choose to go on it you think it's real because that's how powerful our minds are. The ride goes up and down, around and around, it has thrills and chills, and it's very brightly colored, and it's very loud, and it's fun for a while. Many people have been on the ride a long time, and they begin to wonder, "Hey, is this real, or is this just a ride?" And other people have remembered, and they come back to us and say, "Hey, don't worry; don't be afraid, ever. Because this is just a ride." And we...kill those people. "Shut him up! I've got a lot invested in this ride, shut him up! Look at my furrows of worry, look at my big bank account, and my family. This has to be real." It's just a ride. But we always kill the good guys who try and tell us that, you ever notice that? And let the demons run amok? But it doesn't matter, because it's just a ride. And we can change it any time we want. It's only a choice. No effort, no work, no job, no savings of money. Just a simple choice, right now, between fear and love. The eyes of fear want you to put bigger locks on your doors, buy guns, close yourself off. The eyes of love instead see all of us as one. Here's what we can do to change the world, right now, to a better ride. Take all that money we spend on weapons and defenses each year and instead spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would pay for many times over, not one human being excluded, and we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.
