I know i already did this thread, but then i thought it would work better here. I'm doing a project on icons for my photography A-level, and wondered if anyone could contribute any ideas?
Just anything you can think of that relates to icons or iconic things. Anyone you consider an icon?

That sounds really interesting. What do u mean by iconic things? Are you talking about any kinds of icons? I would do something original....like people whom I consider icons but may not seem so to others- or do you have to stick to globally accepted icons? Perhaps take different religions and study their leaders- like Dalai Lama etc.

  • I'd imagine that given the global nature of this board, you might find that images relevant to certain world events or figures are shared as iconic, whereas other icons tend to be local to particular countries. Also, some icons are timeless and others particular to a period of music or a decade. If one wanted to do a project on iconic images of the 1960s, you could consider all of the following links (providing they work):

Ahh, the links I put up won't work. Anyway, one could try Google images and look at photos of Muhammad Ali, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Vietnam... and find out which images were most heavily circulated in the media and which seemed for many to become iconically symbolic of the time.

    :)
  • Thanks people, i'm taking this all down. The creative process can be quite a thing!
