3 Ring circus
The curtain raises and the music begins .
The audience remains silent and no one cheers.
Red, white and blue fills the view.
Acrobats, performers and tigers too.
In a blaze of confetti the Ringmaster appears,
‘Ladies and Patriots lend me your ears.’
Into a spotlight a clown steps through,
A being so desolate when he looks at you.
Love, peace and justice labelled on balloons
With ease he twists them to attune.
An opaque truth from a translucent speech
The audience beseech, wanting to impeach.
The ringmaster looks on in thoughtful silence,
As the clown performs his skilful science.
The mental strings pulling the show.
How could anyone know?
Too complex for a solution,
His only choice was confusion.
The last resort became the first
The blood couldn’t quench his thirst.
Still determined the clown moves on.
On the biggest stage he performs upon.
The audience sits in silence to reflect,
A united thought, but no dialect.
With faces on marbles he begins to juggle,
As they fall he shrugs and giggles.
Negotiation?
‘Not my occupation’
Constantly walking a tightrope of right and wrong.
Deaf to reason, far too headstrong.
Topples onto a net of lies and hyberbole
While the world sings ‘My country ‘tis of thee’
After far too long the show is over
As a monster history will remember this joker.
The sky breaks and tears in two,
Black becomes the red, white and blue.
Gone from the world with much glee
And now this land is truly free,
Until at least a new circus comes to town,
Same old Ringmaster, just a different clown.
Just finished this for my course. What do you think?
