Yeah, and I'm sure the rest of the vocals will be supplied by Axl Rose....

PEARL JAM TO RELEASE SURPRISING 9TH THIS YEAR

Veteran grunge rockers Pearl Jam don't always prove to head where you expected them to. However, their next release might stun their most seasoned fan club member.

As you might have noticed, this article did not mention the band's iconic singer, Eddie Vedder, yet. What may puzzle you even more - he's barely heard on the album. Instead, we are treated to drummer Matt Cameron's, bassist Jeff Ament's and guitarist Stone Gossard's voices to sing their respective compositions and there are eight of them. the ninth (wink-wink) track is the only one featuring Vedder's voice, with shared songwriting credit from guitarist Mike McCready.

It's obviously the highlight of the album. And it lasts eleven minutes.

According to bassist Jeff Ament, "recording this have been really easy, albeit weird. We've been and we're being involved in so many things since our apparent pause after the last proper tour, the six of us! We sure worked together but we had this policy that the songrwiters had the last word, because prior to the sessions, we had to provide very elaborate demos so the guys could learn their parts and put the 'Pearl Jam Aura' on it. This is not your usual Pearl Jam record but we had a blast. We were sort of, covering ourselves."

Ament's comments come off as an understatement after a first listen. This yet-to-be-titled album doesn't sound like a cover band. It sounds like Pearl Jam in full creative mode. Rough and clear with Brendan O'Brien on the producer's chair, the songs share, among their differences, a deep, warm yet, awfully tense mood.

    Out This Summer."
