Tempe's scene

The art scene in Tempe AZ is starting to take off. Visual art like sculpture and paintings are getting a new audience, genx. I'm sure this is no new thing for older and wiser cities in the country but its a big thing out here. One of the reasons why I think this is all happening is that the artist are doing something that people never thought they could do, they are leaving their ego at the door! I'm a theater person myself and actors and espesially musical theater performers are notorious for being concieted jerks and there in lies the problem with the world . Ego or conceite is what keeps the everyday person from coming to see a show (art, music , theater) not theirs but ours. I'm not trying to dog all the artist out there, everybody has something important to say but I think we have lost touch with our place in life. We are here for the people, our job is to show a part of "life" the normal people don't often get to see, to make them feel emotions that they wouldn't normally feel. Our job is no less or greater then the scientist, construction worker, or soilder's work.
I work for one of the high schools here in town ( bus driver) and I see some of the "problem kids (like we all don't have problems)" and I hear them talk about the future , most of them would like to have a better life than thier parents but most don't think that moving out of the hood is possible. Why? Because they don't know about any other life besides what they see outside thier home or whats on t.v and we all know t.v is real right? (yeah right!) You see where I'm going with this?
A person stays in bad relationships because its all they know-we can show them life where that doesn't have to happen.
A person feels threatened by other cultures( racism) and doesn't know how to let go of the hate-we can show them.
A person doesn't know who they are or what part of life they fit in. They can "buy" thier identity or -we can show them so much of life they can make a better choice.
we can show them
we can show them
