Poem - Earl

(Inspired by the town drunk. Take it easy on me, I'm new at this!)

"Earl"

Earl is a man who sleeps all day

Living his life in a vicarious way

Always keepin’ his booze by his side

When the law shows up, he knows to hide

Sittin' on a curb in his worn-out boots

This is the life Earl decided to choose

Made his home beneath an overpass

After his wife and kids kicked him out on his ass

He lives to drink, and drinks to live

Now Earl’s got nothing left to give

He gave up his wife, kids, job, and house

For the vile drink he now pours in his mouth

You’ll find Earl in the gutter on a Saturday night

In a pool of his vomit, it’s a saddening sight

Lookin’ through dumpsters to find some food

That’s Earl for ya, one hell-of-a dude

Collecting cans at the side of the road

He cashes in his meager load

Wasting his dough on wine and gin

It’s a selfish world Earl now lives in

Fuck mankind, fuck the world

Fuck all morals, my name is Earl
