johnny cash makes it even sadder

"Hurt"

I hurt myself today
to see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
the only thing that's real
the needle tears a hole
the old familiar sting
try to kill it all away
but I remember everything
what have I become?
my sweetest friend
everyone I know
goes away in the end
you could have it all
my empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
I wear my crown of shit
on my liar's chair
full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
beneath the stain of time
the feeling disappears
you are someone else
I am still right here
what have I become?

"and then, one Thursday, nearly two thousand years after one man had been nailed to a tree for saying how great it would be to be nice to people for a change, a girl sitting on her own in a small cafe in Rickmansworth suddenly realized what it was that had been going wrong in the world all this time, and she finally knew how the world could be made a good and happy place. This time it was right and no one had to get nailed to anything. Sadly, before she could get to a phone to tell anyone about it, a terrible stupid catastrophe occurred, and the idea was lost forever."

    I get teary eyed everytime I see the video. The song now seems more like Johnny's song than NIN.

    I've been thinking alot about this song/video lately. Hadn't heard/seen it in a long time.

    So now I'm on Bearshare.

    I love Cash's version... but "i wear this crown of thorns" just throws me off every time.

    i hadn't heard the song for ages when i heard johnny's version

    i think his is great but it will never beat the original and it is still definatly NIN's song not Johnny Cash's

    i never liked the big noise at the end of the NIN version, that's all i'd change
