The Source

Watching the moon's reflection upon the still waters,
She hears words, which are unable to be heard.
Bathing beneath the moon's luminous light,
She watches the flight of an unborn bird.
Grasping at the crisp edge of the waters,
She can let her mind frequently play.
And as it swims with the fish,
Her thoughts swiftly float away.
Caught in the currents of the still waters,
She dreams to find the tranquil source.
Where all of life is peacefully calm,
And tranquility and beauty runs its course.
Opening her eyes from the silent dark,
She witnesses the death of a star.
The light dims as it falls down,
And touches her heart healing the scar.
She found the peace that she once had,
And realized beauty had run its course.
The silent words and the unborn flight,
Rearranged her thoughts and became the source.

There are some sites that claim only first publishing rights to your work; anywhere else you publish your work you should sate, 'First published in ...'

However, unless you've made sure to copyright your work prior to submission to Poetry.com, you're effectively signing your rights away and it will cost you $$$$$ to get them back.

Internet poetry forums are always fine though. The copyright to your work remains with you, since you are legally responsible for the content of your own posts.

I wrote the BBB of Maryland and they said they were legit. They said I had nothing to worry about and gave me their business report? Either way I won't submit any more work to them, btw...I checked with poetry.com and they said all work remains the copyright of the author, so I don't know. But seriously thanks for the notice!! I guess I'll just hoard all my stuff and never publish any of it....lol.

Yes, I think the bbb report isn't condemnatory of Poetry.com. However, I think where there's a reasonable degree of complaint about a company one needs to be careful. I could post copious examples of such complaints that might advise people against getting scammed. But I might have made my point, and posting lots of external links might not be cool with Kat. (I respect that.)
