Padding soft.
The little knees sneak into the curl-up
Under green velvet and gold border
The breathing, thread-bare man
The smell of clean feet
and warm arms.

Tiny toes find the way to air through crochet
and something to tangle.
Something to draw the man's ire.
His... gentle reprimand
"Do not, honey. It will tear."

My seven-year old smile
smug, if I knew how.
I am in love with attention.
His kisses on my brow.

My own daughter is seven, now.
She likes to pretend she's falling out of bed.
Sometimes she sleeps with the covers over her head,
    and nothing else.

  • So few people realize how powerful simplicity can be, you caught a nice moment on paper there, good read.

    thanks so much, Evil :)
  • :) Aw, this made me smile from ear to ear! It's so sweet and pretty, PastaNazi. I love to read the poems that kids inspire their parents to write, they're so touching. Thank you! :)

I agree with ETE.......this kind of simplicity is profound........there are other kinds of simplicity which I'm not too fond of, but Pasta, you're really describing mischievous innocence.......if that's not a contradiction in terms.....I love kids...!!!!! and people.....(generally).....:)
....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......
