A B*tch in a Sandstorm, with love

Face the wind
with a chin on your shoulder.
Your arms 'round me.
Our bellies talking
despite the blown silence.

Scan desert horizons
the sandstone, the bluff,
the occasional green sage
(the wet, gracious this winter)
for skinwalkers.
Biding equanimity,
we,
and a place to rest.
This low mum
says don't let go.
Clip quick about a waist
and stay.

oh... and skinwalkers are a navajo myth
they can take off and/or change their skin to look like coyotes or elk or whatever they want

they can be seen clipping along highways at night
laughing at drivers and causing them to wreck

pretty scary shit as far as tradition goes
the navajo wont even mention them for fear of calling one up to them

quite the bad little omen, as it were

(forgive me if i've written this before, lol... such the spaz)

  • This has me thinking of a couple embracing eachother in that sandstorm--everything's all a muddle blowing around them, all unsure and questioning--but they are constant, they are one, together, braving all the elements. :)

    "don't let go"--no, don't let go...definately hold close :)

A whirlwind of wonderful, PastaNazi! :)

    oh thank you, lovey!

i was hoping that came out well...

i wonder if i show the desert enough

g'DAMN it's pretty this year! we had so much snow and rain in january... more than ever

usually, the sage looks black, like it's been on fire but this year, everything's so green

funny though, how NOT moving and continuing to place oneself in one's landscape... things start looking very familiar from poem to poem, yes?

    Yousa welcomes!!!! :D

I could see the desert in my mind's eye and it was beautiful! :) Mind you, you could always write some more and expand on it's beauty if the feeling takes hold. :)

There's nothing wrong with writing about the familiar! It's what you know best and each time you create a differnt piece of the landscape. Plus, sometimes it's nice to have a recurring theme--it's a signature and it can be what makes some people remember---"hey, that's a PastaNazi piece". :)

Aha! :D Funny you should mention that, I started one up last night after our pals took us out for the tour...only it blew donkey dong so I scrapped it and wrote the "Nothingman" one I posted instead! :)

I don't like to try to force them out so, if I get a flow going with it, I'll hopefully get a good one out about the canoe trip! :)
