shame on you for sleeping

he must have felt her leave the room
pushing past the curtain in the door
even though she made no indication,
she had any place to be
beside, beside, his arm beneath her head
he'd no idea, although imperically he knew
her haunt ran deeper than a stream
beneath a prairie
his dreams went dark, you know
his face slept like a stormy day
while she was outside fantasizing
that somehow she turned time around
and now moved backward, re-becoming what had passed
every now and then,
she'd go back to the bedroom
to fetch a thing or two she needed
she'd see his stormy face,
and blame him for his sleeping
pushing past the curtain in the door
even though she made no indication,
she had any place to be
beside, beside, his arm beneath her head
he'd no idea, although imperically he knew
her haunt ran deeper than a stream
beneath a prairie
his dreams went dark, you know
his face slept like a stormy day
while she was outside fantasizing
that somehow she turned time around
and now moved backward, re-becoming what had passed
every now and then,
she'd go back to the bedroom
to fetch a thing or two she needed
she'd see his stormy face,
and blame him for his sleeping
