first thoughts on this winter

it's winter now so when i walk my breath looks like a busy swarm of clouds
my skin pale
like my face was hit with passing snow and painted,
but yet in winter
everything seems so much warmer
your eyes, a friction of wood floor
and the blues. Teargassed, I'll gladly trade
the summer swelt away for a winter's yawn
the tired sunken mettle of snow seeped into boots
tying down my life to a few simple feet
a mere yard in a mere town
and every memory feels more pressed and important
as if it might leave at any moment
an unannounced spring around this very corner.

Mitch Hedberg- RIP 1968-2005. your jokes have laughed me through a lot. I thank you.

I'm feeling Winter today too. We had our first snow-fall yesterday and the air is so darn cold this morning! :)
