you look like a heroin holiday
red dress torn sagging down
cut back to a ribbon the string it once was
around your neck a scar sneaks uncovered
a nest of times, the rest of times
secured into a skin
painted without a thought for color or adorned adore
i'm afraid to go any further into you
things unseen to the mirror, our photographic double
you were once this girl

and now you like it when i swing my words
around a burnt anger or a robotic abuse

let's hang pictures of our old selves around this place
decorate the apartment for a future cleft
decisively different and decadent
celebrations under our clothes
sweat bending taking off in flight
summer fireworks
and red and green balloons lost to the air
what do you say
this year
we hold these moments just a little while longer
whistle louder
waste only enough days to be wasting without losing our breath.
hand me another cigarette
let's talk about the new days, tailor made and sweet
