I'm a Believer

Belief

he says he never wants to leave
he says
the best part of waking up
is me he says
isn’t she beautiful
to the cat, when he thinks
I’m not listening
he says
I love you--I love you
when he doesn’t have to,
when I am being wretched,
tangled in depression
and tortured and sorry
in the tear-stained quiet
he says
I love you.
I love you.
I wish I was a Democrat
One that had a chance to win
I wish I was a Republican
But would I be a human being?

    that is so pretty.
    i really like that because it is the sort of love we all want and deserve.

    Thanks for the feedback, guys...what's funny is that I meant it to be a happy poem. Like, I might be a wreck, but I have someone to hold me. And sometimes that's better than not being a wreck in the first place.

    I'm sorry, tracingdaisies but I just couldn't help meself! :D I was so thinking The Monkees when I read the title and then the fact that your poem states "he says he never wants to leave", well, now that damn song is playing in my head! :p:D

    To me, this poem sounds almost as if you're telling the story to the reader in an excited - "I can't believe he said this to me voice". Like it's almost unbelieveable to you that someone could feel this way about YOU. YOU are beautiful and YOU deserve to be loved like this! Please, believe it! :)
