These Wayside Dreams

Judge me. Mock me. Try to make me
No matter what I will not fake me
Bar me. Drag me. Try to take me
Looks are deceiving. You cannot break me

You taught me much of fear and shame
Piling tinder on the flame
I have survived your little game
Beneath the ashes I found my name

On the wings of reborn dreams
I soar above the drudging schemes
Finding my heart's path redeems
I see a future and it gleams

There's more to life than work and sleep
I tip toe past the other sheep
Escaping though the way is steep
At the summit, I prepare my leap

To myself, I must be true
That has been my only clue
If I'm unhappy then I must do
That which puts my dreams in view
