Puddle Dance

“We see heaven upside down in sad puddles.”

--Ho Xuan Huong,
“Spring Watching Pavilion”,
translated by John Balaban,
in “Spring Essence”, 2000

Laughing with
you, dancing
on beachwalk,
running to
touch our
toes, Pacific-ally,
kissing in
salty waters,
walking in
exquisite rain,
our hair
dewed, damp,
a beachwalk
stage, my
Miss America
run-skipping
hop-Scotch
through the
fresh puddles
wearing your
Mardi Gras
shoes, we
see sea
horizon’s Heaven—
upside down,
the puddles
reflecting (as
Maya) your
smile, so
radiant in
warm rain,
the puddles
are sad
to see
you go.

i am the shore line and you're the sea
It was a dream, not a nightmare. A beautiful dream I could never imagined in a thousand nods. I saw this girl next to me, she wasn't beautiful until she smiled. And I felt that smile come at me in heat waves following. Soaking through my body and out my finger tips in shafts of color. And I knew somewhere in the world, somewhere, that there was love for me.
