I never thought we'd say goodbye
it never crossed my mind
I never thought I'd watch you leave
through my glossy eyes your cold heart shines
my heart drops
pounds and slows
reaches for you
and beats alone
once a servant to your warm embrace
like a tree is to sunlight, now shrouded in shade
why can't I see truth until nothing is left?
was I fooling myself?...perhaps I was your simple pet
to toy with, to play with,
to rush back to the store
with my emotions a stirr
as your hand slams the door...
but now that I'm sitting in my pretty little cage
filled with memories and confusion
I mutter this saying
I hope one day when you look up at the sky
and you're shattered in pieces and beating alone
with the shade all around you
and you're reaching for more
that you'll remember the day
when you entered the store
it never crossed my mind
I never thought I'd watch you leave
through my glossy eyes your cold heart shines
my heart drops
pounds and slows
reaches for you
and beats alone
once a servant to your warm embrace
like a tree is to sunlight, now shrouded in shade
why can't I see truth until nothing is left?
was I fooling myself?...perhaps I was your simple pet
to toy with, to play with,
to rush back to the store
with my emotions a stirr
as your hand slams the door...
but now that I'm sitting in my pretty little cage
filled with memories and confusion
I mutter this saying
I hope one day when you look up at the sky
and you're shattered in pieces and beating alone
with the shade all around you
and you're reaching for more
that you'll remember the day
when you entered the store
Only with our eyes closed can we truly see

So I can say this is the way I use to be" -- John Mayer

When We Two Parted....
WHEN we two parted
In silence and tears,
Half broken-hearted
To sever for years,
Pale grew thy cheek and cold,
Colder thy kiss;
Truly that hour foretold
Sorrow to this.
The dew of the morning
Sunk chill on my brow—
It felt like the warning
Of what I feel now.
Thy vows are all broken,
And light is thy fame:
I hear thy name spoken,
And share in its shame.
They name thee before me,
A knell to mine ear;
A shudder comes o'er me—
Why wert thou so dear?
They know not I knew thee,
Who knew thee too well:
Long, long shall I rue thee,
Too deeply to tell.
In secret we met—
In silence I grieve,
That thy heart could forget,
Thy spirit deceive.
If I should meet thee
After long years,
How should I greet thee?
With silence and tears.
