Chopper (Go On...)

Go on and save my friends but don't save me

Go on and tell them that I love 'em so deeply
Go on and tell them I said they were okay
Go on and say their weed was smoking softly
Go on and tell them that I was the same

Go on and save my friends but don't save me

Go on and fly to the hill where they're dying
Go on, there's only enough space for my friends
Go on do as I say cause I'm your captain
Go on and say I'm okay but just pretend

Go on and save my friends but don't save me

Go on and save my friends to set me free

(I hope you find solace in these lines)

    very interesting :)
    It's all yellow.

  • Maybe if you were feeling the same way I was that night you would feel exactly what I'm saying.

This is really a song, not much a poem, but it's very poetic. okay, then it is a poem but with music. hehe.

it's a very emotional meaning. and in a sense very depressing.
but if you find your own meaning to this song then i'm open for you to share them with me.

  • I see no one is posting anything, ha ha, I guess this one really sucks. Well, if anyone's wondering what I'm saying let me explain.

Have you ever seen a war movie? You know the parts when there's a chopper that comes to save the wounded but it could only take a certain amount of soldiers. Sometimes, the movie gets dramatic that one of the soldiers gets left behind for dead. Well the one that gets left behind is me and I'm telling the 'soldier', or life's decisions, to leave me behind and allow my friends to get on. In other words, I'm taking my friends problems.

The chopper is a metaphor to many things. Love, peace, life, friendship, and anything you can think of.

I dedicated this to my friends that I haden't seen for a long time. They were very troubled. One of them wanted to kill himself, the other was a drug dealer, and they all considered me as being the 'goody kid' but I'm a person with many flaws. If love is one of my flaws, then so beit.

After reading your description, I thought of this thing I slapped down one night. It's about taking on everyone's problems, but then, who takes on your own?

    Dear........ universe,

I am writing to you because I need someone to cry on, and what vastly larger, oblivious and impervious entity to cry to than everything? You see, universe, sometimes the stars don't shine for me at night, either. And who am I but the great listener? Stars a plenty, it seems. It seems the stars never shine for some people I love. Maybe they just sorta glow ambiguously through meds or yet to be broken promises, or gleefully hunted lightning bugs dressed in a haze of Mike's Hard Lemonade, but overall, the only shiny things in their lives are the 3-pak of razor blades in the hardware department, promises whispered from exotic locales, or who is waiting for us in Heaven.

So yah, I'm the great listener. I'm the great snatcher from the ledge. I'm the great comfy thirsty shoulder that softens the bite of desperation. Where do I have to go? What happens to me when my world wants to spontaneously combust and my brain is cheering it on... and my heart sorta lags behind as if dragged by a retractable toddler leash?

The great listener has no problems greater than those who trust him to save their lives. The great listener is not a copycat. The great listener is strong. The great listener is a victim to circumstance. He keeps control over the bedlam.

Where do I go, universe, when all I have is the occasional visiting firefly on my ceiling and everyone who needs me and a few big empty holes?

    My stars aren't shining tonight.

And I don't think you have a shoulder for me.

I'll just talk to your darkness.

Thanks for listening. I think I'll go to bed now.

I understand. But doesn't the universe suffer itself? Doesn't the universe cry from it's own agonies? Doesn't the universe ask questions as well?

Doesn't the universe ask us, "Why are you doing this to me?" "Why are my fishes dying in Alaska?" "Why is my ozone decaying?" "Why are you killing yourselves?" "Why are you treating my earth like you do?" "Do you want to go to mars to do the same?"

I don't know. I understand what you're saying but I think the universe suffers as well as we do.

What I would say is that we all have our own moments in life. Our own experiences. This poem wasn't about our problems but more of being a friend to someone. The unique type of friendship that you would find with a person. The kind that you would love someone enough to lay your own lives down for them.

Do you believe in that kind of friendship? Would you ever love someone enough that you'd be abel to help them carry their problems?

Just a suggestion. But I understand what you say.

When I think of the universe, I think of something far bigger than the fishes and the people and Mars. The fish dying in Alaska to the Universe is something like losing a single cell in your galblatter to you. Even smaller, actually.

But yah... everyone needs someone to lean on in times of need, and everyone has their own problems. There's no problem-free person to lean on... even the universe.

And to answer your question... there are people in the world who I love enough to take on their problems as my own... but if any friend is willing to give you their problems completely and leave free of them, they are not friends worth the priveledge.

Okay, I don't want to start a debate here with this reply cause that would be too ridiculous.

But a friend that gives you their problems completely and leave free of them that are not friends worth the priviledge then they wouldn't be friends. So why not just call them enemies? But if they were enemies then you would hate them. And if you hate them how then could you love?

Love and hate don't mix. What I'm saying is that love conquers all. Love is very powerful. Love is not just an emotion. Love is beyond that. Love is what counted the stars by name, and created the night and day. Love is the truth. If you love an enemy or even a friend not worth the priviledge, well, my suggestion is to love them even more. If you believe love can conquer them too. When you love that way all your friends will become your followers and you become a leader. That's why I call myself a captain in the poem. I've just become a master because I gave my own life. Now my friends owe me back a lot. Do you understand?

I'm saying this because it sounds as if you're calling my friend just that. That they took advantage of my friendship and that they are not worth fighting for because they take advantage of me. Well, just wait till I love you and then you'll love me too. Do you deny the power of love?

Pearl Jam doesn't. "Love is all you need. All you need is love, love, love" -LBC

Relax, bud. I was takling in literal terms like "Hey, I owe this guy $10,000" and you pay it for him and he's like "ok, thanks!" and that's it. And this happens over and over. That's taking advantage and that sucks. Love or no, no "friend" will straight up take advantage of another friend.

There's a huge difference between that and doing a favor or that and doing what I perceive you're talking about: sharing a burden. That is a great thing and what love is about. Emotional support, favors, helping hands... that kinda stuff.

    While we're using PJ lyrics:

He still gives his love, he just gives it away...
And the love he receives is the love that is saved

  • I was hoping you wouldn't think I was trying to argue with you. It's these toneless forums! You never know when someone's mad or happy.

I understand you but my poem has nothing to do with that other kind of friend that you're talking about I was just hoping that you didn't misinterpret what I was trying to say. So I sent a reply.

But don't think I'm lovey dovey and all of that. I'm not gay. If I would owe someone $10,000 from a friend and would take advantage of me the way you're talking about, yeah, he would definitely suck. That's not a real friend. He's a bitch. Hehe. I do hold some type of cruelty inside myself.

I hope I'm clearing things up though. I wasn't offended or upset. I just wanted to share my suggestions and the meanings of my poem.

Yes, great lyrics form Pearl Jam!

  • Ok, Ok, totally off topic and silly of me but you know, as soon as I first read the title for this, I was reminded of "Stand By Me" and the junkyard dog "Chopper" and that all the kids were afriad of Chopper because he'd sick balls! *points finger at her own head and does the "loco-a-la-cabasa" finger wiggle* I think I'm some form of foofoohead!
