Calling poets and musicians here

Does anybody fancy recording their original poems or songs, and sending them to me as an mp3, and then I could make a little hobby radio station to share our work? I went and got a free broadcast program and I've been testing out the kit, but it would be cool for us to hear each other perform our work on the air, no? There'd only be a limited number of streams for people to hear it, but it could be fun. We could make the occasional show and I'll broadcast it on a little rotation.

Let me know. Hope that doesn't sound like spam, because it's only you and your work I'm talking about, and it would be totally free.

Edit: It needn't be an mp3. It could be a FLAC, OGG or WMA file. (No shns though; there's no shn plugin for my JetCast program as of yet.)

I have every faith in Fins with this venture... i dont know if the stuff I write would be good enough though :(

sounds like a lot of fun though...

if it gets up and running i'd be interested to participate.... only with knees-a-tremblin and fingers-a-bitin

Cool. I'll keep bumping this. PM me if you've something, and I'll put together a playlist.

I'm experimenting with JetCast at the moment. It's temperamental, though. I might try Shoutcast. I'm only using a free program. This is just a hobby thingy, for us. :)

Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

A good mic and a free recording program such as Audio Recorder For Free (see Download.com) should be okay. I'm only going to broadcast at 32kbps so as long as we're reasonably clear and audible we should be okay. And we'll only broadcast to a max of about 8 streams at any one time.

I know cassia's up for this too! (Remember cassia? :))
  • i don't know how to make an mp3.

....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......
  • Super idea!!! I'll see what I can do. I've got scads of stuff somewhere...

  • sounds like a good idea. If you dont mind, I'll try to submit something in musical format. Its not the best recording quality, but what can a lad do

I think I can handle most formats actually, including FLAC and WAV. I'll broadcast as soon as I have enough material to do a show of a couple of hours. PM me, people, about sending me material. You could email me small files but for the larger files they'd be better sent some other way. We'll work it out.
  • all you need to do is a peep-peer transfer...ie limewire...pretty fast. Also, messenger transfers files pretty fast.

Limewire's fooked right now, I thought? Or is that just for copyrighted material?

I was thinking of Messenger. I have Trillian, which supports MSN, Yahoo and AIM. Whatever program anyone has, I can get the files from them that way. Also, on Jetcast there's a chat facility. People can send me files while I'm actually on the air.

    Fins

can we submit stand-up stuff... or is it poetry based your looking for?

I was thinking of doing like 2 minutes spouts of comic fury on various incendiary topics...

would this be of any use???

    Dunky :)

No potentially libellous references to the peccadilloes of politicians, celebrities or royal family members, though. Much though I enjoy that sort of thing. ;)

nothing litigious old boy... just stuff about buses and the wrappers on Babybel's... light relief stuff.... but I was also gonna do some historical stuff along the lines of, the conversation between JFK and Jackie O prior to getting shot... or the last 3 minutes of Hitlers life... :) just rants about everyday things on an observational level

I'll need to get started but it was mainly to check that you would be open to this kinda thing.

    Cheers :)

Anything you like, really. I suppose I have to keep it kind of before the watershed but we can bend those old rules as far as we can get away with.

I would love to do this, but how do I record something for you? Is there such a thing as an MP3 whatever for me to talk into? I'm really not well-versed in this MP3 business. Little help?

Sure. There are several free recording programs available. The one I'm using at the moment is part of the JetAudio player. For me, Jet's as good as any media player, including Winamp. It has a built-in CD Burner, CD Ripper, and File Converter, as well as the recorder.

    Here's a link to it, via Download.com:

    http://www.download.com/3000-2167-10013740.html

Once you have it downloaded, installed and running, you'll see a "R" for recording option on the face of the player. Click it. A screen will appear, headed "Recording". In the top left window, tick the box saying "Microphone." (Let's presume you have a good mic plugged into the soundcard in your pc.) Then, choose the format you want to save your file to (WAV is usually default, but it takes up a lot of disk space; you could choose WMA 7 format instead), decide where on your pc you want it to be stored, and when you're ready, hit the Start button. When you're done, click Stop.

    Hope that helps, Bella.
  • that's pretty cool, i think im in!
