I Was A Mod

I was told you had to
cut the fur off your parka
to be in the hood
and stick scissor marks
in your lovely new coat
to look Brighton '64
in Cambridge '83

But I think I was a face
not a ticket
for an eleven year old
with Jam shoes bought from a midget
and an Amen Corner badge, sold as first wave

Ah

I was targeted
but I had a tricolour patch on the back
an Irish mod, eh?

I always loved The Who
more than mod

one day I'll make sure white dungarees make a bigger comeback

I like the "fashion statement" made about youth, made me smile and cringe to think about my youth fashion.
