I'll record this tomorrow.

Once a week Lou dyes her hair a shade of bluey pink
She walks around the pubs all day, but never takes a drink
She sticks her head inside each door and then she goes away
Before she lost her Jack, Lou’s hair was only ever grey

She’s had her front wall rendered, calls it curving in relief
Her house was robbed a year ago, she swears she’ll catch the thief
She smokes out on the street, she laughs, she’s living for the day
Before she lost her Jack, Lou never had too much to say

Lou wears a felt green blazer and she wears an orange tan
Her shoes shine black like pre-dawn and her skirts are spick and span
But her fuchsia’s gone to weeds, between the splats of builder’s clay
Before she lost her Jack, Lou never changed in any way

The supermarket checkout girl is studying, part-time
She praises newfound freedom for old widows in their prime
Lou says, “A kind of freedom, yes.” A coin shines out a ray.
Before she lost her Jack, Lou never noticed dusk in play.
