Imagine being tuned into your favourite kids' show, on a Saturday morning, The presenter says, "Next week we have John Lennon on the show." You watch the next week's programme religiously, but John never shows up, because as it turns out, he's in New York and the thing about him coming on the show was just a joke.

The other day, after 27 years of holding the memory in my head, I discovered the clip of the announcement, and can only now catch the irony:

Paul McCartney had been on that week's show.

Has anything like that ever happened to you, and can you write about it?

I wanted a bike for Christmas. We were very poor and living with my mom and stepdad in California. I thought my father, living in Florida at the time, was very rich, and so I asked him for a bike, instead. A small box arrived in the mail, and I remember looking at the box, imagining a very tiny bicycle inside.

    There was no bike.

When I was in fourth grade, someone gave me a box of round bathbeads (the squishy ones with colored oil in them) at Christmas time. One of the girls in my class told me she could turn them into jewels if I gave them to her to bring home. As you can imagine, I waited the rest of the school year for her to bring them back and show me the jewels. :p
