    Poor old Miley though . . . what the fuck. Why do famous girls/women feel like they have to sexualise themselves within an inch of their life to get publicity/sales/whatever? And the problem is it works . . . Miley had more retweets because of some overtly sexual and somewhat gross performance that I haven't seen properly (the twerking thing?) than EVER right? It's a sad state of affairs . . . really naff. Remember the Britney/Madonna pash thing? (Which sadly had nothing to do with empowering gay girls) And Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction? And then didn't another female singer do something similar for publicity recently? (Forgive me, I'm kinda hopeless with pop culture).

    Even the beautiful talented Beyonce has some video clips that are like, seriously weird. She has a voice LIKE THAT, and songs that are supposed to be 'you go girl' and shit, and then in this one clip I caught once she was dancing around in lingerie and an apron was it? Dusting (or something similar)? I mean, for fuck's sake.

    Maybe it was tongue in cheek, but what tween is gonna get that??

    So yes, poor Miley. A talented young chickie, who has to dive headfirst into raunch culture to make sales, is knocked off her perch by a band that have legions of female fans because of their feminist (or humanist) values . . .

    Although, all that said, it's not like our EV doesn't use his sexuality to make a few sales!! I.e. the 'pole' dancing in the MYM film clip? Pretty bloody sexy. And he knows it too the cheeky bugger! ;);)

    CURTIS: We turned down inaugurals, TV specials, stadium tours, every kind of merchandise you could think of. I got a call from Calvin Klein, wanting Eddie to be in an ad. I learned how to say no really well. I was proud of the band, proud of their stances. We were starting to use the power for more political, more charitable type things.
