What I meant doesn't have directly to do with his beauty, he is gorgeous & he'll be even at the age of 80, it is more about how I feel when I look at that kind of picture, with that peculiar image quality, like when you watch a super 8 video of your own childhood, a kind of nostalgia grows inside you for things you know so well but they are so far away though, those images belong to your memories & not to your daily life anymore, a feeling I can't hardly describe. I look at those kind of pictures & I think about my own youth, I long for the sun & the beach, the sea waves, a very distant world/dimension...
Given2Fly I read this wonderful post the other day, and have been meaning to reply (unti I got side-tracked by EV's manliness) . . . I know EXACTLY what you mean, that nostalgic feeling for a distant world/dimension. I pretty much feel nostalgic most of the time. I was nostalgic at 21 years old! I sometimes wonder whether it's my own youth I'm nostalgic for (especially the years between 8-12, and yes, especially summers at the beach) or whether it is a different time and place I'm longing for. Like a past life, or a future life, or even the afterlife (if you believe in any of that stuff).
The one time in life I'm guaranteed to never feel nostalgic is when I'm drunk, surrounded by friends. Then I'm like 'Life is so RICH and amazing and I wouldn't wanna be anywhere but here! Right now!', which is probably why I drink so much. And why I never wanna go home, or go to bed.
And of course at PJ concerts . . . I'm never anything but JOYFUL in the midst of a PJ concert!
But you know, I think nostalgia happens to loads of people. Like you watch 'Woodstock' and all of a sudden your wistful for THEIR time, and THEIR youth. Even that lovely movie Midnight in Paris is all about nostalgia for other eras. Or you watch some awesome trilogy (like LOTR or Star Wars) and you're nostalgic for the films once they'e over!!!!
The thing is -- I'm never nostalgic for being on my own, for my own company, it's always about being with other people . . . Maybe (and I might be getting a bit spiritual here) there comes a time in the life of a human consciousness where there IS a utopia. Where human souls are living together in friendship and intimacy and joy, whether it's in this world or another, and deep down we're all longing for that place. That connection and contentment.
Do you have kids? I said this to a friend of mine recently, that unless I'm with friends (and getting tipsy and happy the way I do when I drink), I'm often feeling nostalgic, or longing for something intangible. And she said that used to happen to her too. Until she had kids. So maybe some of the nostalgia we feel is for our own future family? . . . Or maybe you're just so busy with kids you don't give a shit!
I saw this movie recently where one of the characters says 'life just has a gap in it' . . . But I bet you only feel the gap if you're bored, or if you're safe and well-fed, because I doubt you'd worry about the gap if you were fighting for survival!
And of course we all have different ways of filling the gap. Pearl Jam obsession anyone?

I feel like I should go read 'The Power of Now', or some book that will make me appreciate existence, as it is, this very moment.

I think this is it. I mean, body reacts to excitement, it doesn't necessarily have to be arousal. It is much less obvious for girls. I only get goosebumpy and I have better bras than Jennifer Aniston it seems.

And I don't think it is embarrassing. Why would it be? He doesn't seem embarrassed, his body language in those situations does not give away shame at all. Maybe it was a bit awkward for him in the beginning, a long time ago, but I think Ed got too self-confident and secure to be embarrassed by such trivial and normal things. Maybe, you mean, because it is so private? I don't know, for me a PJ show is such an intimate experience that I don't think anything could or should be embarrassing. It is almost spiritual. I'm sure it happens to the other guys too, but they are covered by their instruments and Ed is exposed (which is cool. ).
Re his stage boners, yep I imagine it's excitement, adrenalin, heightened blood-flow, the music, the love of the crowd and stuff like that? Okay, so this is PRETTY ODD (please don't judge me) but I once got turned on by a Pearl Jam song. Like literally, afterwards I was like 'omfg, what just happened?'. I was watching a youtube clip of Rearview Mirror being played live by the boys (one of my all-time favourites songs in the history of the world) and when it got to the climax bit (you know towards the end of Mike's solo, before the 'saw things . . . . SAW THINGS . . . . clearerrrrrrr') they fucked around, like kept putting it off, like held the anticipation of that bit of the song for AGES before FINALLY going nuts. And, strangely enough, I kinda felt it below the waist!!!! It was REALLY ODD! And a bit hot . . . I was like shit, my favourite band just collectively turned me on with music. Probably the only genuine sexual experience I will ever have with PJ (that doesn't involve fantasies of naked band members ).
So maybe EV is getting turned on by the build-up of the music and the energy etc?? Aaaaah, he's such a sensual, sexual, beautiful man.
