Grandmother

She sits in the dark.
She prays.
She weeps.
She mourns.
Remininscent of yesterday.
Trying to live for today.
Cooking a meager meal for one.
Living alone and lonely,
with the company of myself
and the family.
Waiting for the day
when Jesus will take her by the hand.
I'm lonely for her,
and I love her dearly.
A whisper and a thrill
A whisper and a chill

Ali.....a good poem.....may I make a couple of suggestions (hehehehehe)

    She sits in the dark.
    She prays.
    She weeps.
    She mourns.
    RemininscING of yesterday.
    Trying to live for today.
Cooking a meagRE meal for one.
    Living alone and lonely,
    with the company of myself
    and the family.
    Waiting for the day
when Jesus will take her by the hand.
    I'm lonely for her,
    and I love her dearly.

it reminds me of a poem I read around the time of my father's death.....

Report on Experience by Edmund Blunden

    'I have been young, and now am not too old;
And I have seen the righteous forsaken,
His health, his honour and his quality taken.
This is not what we were formerly told.'

I hate in when old people are lonely, sad or abused.....
....they're asking me to prove why I should be allowed to stay with my baby in Australia, because I'm mentally ill......and they think I should leave......

    She sits on the sofa
    covered in that plastic stuff
    crochetting another blanket-
    Like a well-oiled machine
    she moves.
    The matriarch.

    Once a granddaughter
    lamented the loss of her
    submarined husband
"It's such a bummer to be without him at family functions."
    with humor grandma responds
    "I know what you mean."

    She'll be 94 June 23rd.

It doesnt hurt.... when I bleed
    but memories...they eat me
    I've seen it all before,...
bring it on cause I'm no victim.

Her brain is still intact...being the widow of a serviceman, she just wants the war to stop! But she was getting so Nasty it was scary. Its a good thing senior citizens still vote..but they take it just as serious as we do!!!!!!:)
