St. Nick

They respect me as much
as running water that
is shut off by their childlike hands.
When Christmas comes,
They don't talk, and
give you a
tampon on a string.
Some just give you a swift kick in the ass.
And on birthdays?
They take you out to get you drunk-
so the knife doesn't hurt that bad
while being yielded in your back.
When youre sick and down and out,
they call you crazy,
and say,
"DON"T CALL HER!!!!!!"
On these special occasions,
I'd rather no gift at all,
or,
Give me death-
quick, hard, and long,
by their bloodied hands.
In these instances,
I'd rather they crawl
back under the superficial rock they came from,
and leave me alone with myself,
for the holidays are coming,
and I'd rather be with those
who think like St. Nick.

This one was funny. The tampon part made me laugh.

Wow, I though it was rather sad. I take it you don't like holidays...or perhaps just not the dreaded realitives. At least the big holidays are only once a year.
Our love must not be just words, but True Love, which shows itself in action,
No one needs a smile more than someone who fails to give one,
After you die...you know how to LIVE!
  • You know what, I see it as a funny poke at something sad. The tragic comedian. Laughter being the best medicine. If I couldn't laugh at the things that are/were sad in my life, I'd probably be pretty messed up. My sisters and I crack jokes about our sad past that definately shock people when they hear them but they laugh with us because it IS funny. At least now it is. :) It can help you deal with shit better, at least that's my experience.

I liked your poem, Ali. :) And I loved the tampon line!!!! LOL!!! I wish my grandma gave us tampons! It would have been a welcomed change from the oversized, hideous undies she got us every year. :)

    I do this as well.
  • I think you either have bad taste in men, or there are just no good men in D.C. but when we can find something more in the pain, let it pass through the crucible of the soul and transform into beauty, well at least that pain can make us feel alive.

well guys...let me tell you this...hearing that a friend betrayed you,or finding out that they arent really your friend DOES hurt. And all I can do is write about it.I'm at that point in my life where I'm old enough not to play games with peoples feelings-and that feelings do matter. The world is a rough place-sometimes-and in the performing arena, even tougher. That is-one of my jobs.I just got screwed over by a friend tonight-AGAIN.He promised me a part in a show and had me sit in on the audition.Imagine my dismay when he had his ex-girlfriend read for the part he was promising me.Once again...I have more experience and am a much more HONEST actor/actress-and I do things professionally by the book, not through lies and deception. At least I have the things I'm working on.I tell you people...TRUST YOUR INSTINCTS...:)
And the wierd thing is...I'm not at all phased by this.....

  • ali, i like the poem, it's very original.

sometimes i think i would give my right arm, no the left, no, not really either one, that's a figure of speech, to have an original thought.

    "When Christmas comes,
    They don't talk, and
    give you a
    tampon on a string."

that's a pretty odd and original gift.

a great metaphor for a gift that would be hard to reply to

that would be a great thread continuation . . . (no tam-pun intended)

  • no, that's terrible. someone really did that, to imply that?

i'm sorry for them that they treated you like this.

you, know i think a lot about those two kids in one of your poems that you wrote about, and i think there are more kids out there that are like that.

(i wouldn't waste any more of your valuable poetry writing time on such difficult to understand gifts. . . i think i would write about one that is easier to understand. . . here's a little one from me -- i learned it by accident, isn't it fun when that happens :)
  • ali, i just had a cool idea. it would make me really happy. i am going to peru this summer. some of the kids there do not have books and things, and they want to learn english.

i would love to give them a cool poem that you write and teach it to them.

it will be a belated st. nick's present. so come up with a poem worthy of some kids in peru who want to learn english. and yours will be the first poem they ever read in english.

    what do ya think?

    You

    I am but
    a drop of water
    in an endless ocean
    of softly shed tears
    without the sound
    of your voice.
I am but a pebble of sand
    in a vast desert
    of lonely lost hope
    without the feel
    of your touch.
    I am but
    a child laden
    in an empty field
    of withering love
    without the presence
    of your soul.

    What do you think Pearlmutt?
It's better than the usual venting I do,
    I suppose.:)
I feel as though most would rather appreciate and think fondly upon the good times:)

This is so wonderful! I am sorry about your friends that aren't very good friends. But, that is so great about the kids and your poem! That is truly fantastic! Especially when it comes to touching the lives of little kids, little sponges. Think about the awe they will feel to learn it. This made my day.

This just reminded me of something I wrote a long time ago...one piece of the poem went:

and the parading dawn, like a lost child
in a crowded square, sobs with the greatest
of all realizations, it is no longer alone
  • loved the poem, and the peru thing is an uber idea!
The only thing I enjoy is having no feelings....being numb rocks!

And I won't make the same mistakes
    (Because I know)
Because I know how much time that wastes
    (And function)
    Function is the key
  • Ali, beautiful!

Thanks groove..thanks ete.And of course thank you Pearlmutt.:)
I loved this...usaully I write toward every audience and try to get some sort of response as to their "needs",but this is truely great to be included in a group of children's lives in Peru.I AM SO GRATEFUL,"R", and so thankful for this opportunity. You have to Pm me if you need any other info....
or feel free to just ask here..I'd be willing to honestly answer any questions whatsoever. Its good to feel as though youre bringing somekind of enlightenenment into someones life that is positive, and not so negative, such as drugs, crime, and monotonous glorification of sex.
