    He goes on to say:
"It frustrated me at college that all the acts in the top ten were like The Moody Blues and Phil Collins. It was like why did we get stuck with the last generation's music, why can't we have our own? So i don't want to be a part of anything like that again, it is suffocating"

I don't agree with Dave on this, but his new album is a really good listen and i've enjoyed his work a lot. Disapointing he dropped pearl jam's name like that but oh well we all have opinions.

I cant say I ever heard of them. After listening to that song on youtube, I can say i wont be listening to them again. To much county twang for my taste.

Actually, he's really really good. But I don't know where he gets off making comments like this. It's not like PJ are all over MTV or anything like that. And there's plenty of young bands that are thriving....there's so much music out there, I don't know why he thinks there's not room for old bands and new bands. It's kind of a weird line of thinking if you ask me. What are Pearl Jam supposed to do? Just stop making music? It's what they were born to do. And yeah, they haven't made a truly great record since 1998, but it doesn't mean it won't happen.

Who the fuck is that and why should I even care?

Pear Jam taking up space, that's comical ...it's the space they've EARNED from being such a great band, what a douche bag!

Sounds to me like this dickbag is just jealous. He must write for Pitchfork.

Hell...Pitchfork probably thinks this guy is the second coming of Pepperoni Pizza. He should go work for the inde-circle jerk circus over there.

They'll stroke him enough to satisfy his over-inflated ego.

    Yeah.
This shit eating swine is just pissed that he can't pay the bills. Perhaps when he isn't pouring mocca coffee down the throats of yuppies at Starbucks he should take some time and learn how to put a few coherent chords together on the six string.

Number one rule of thumb....If your going to rip on bands like Pearl Jam, or anyone else that actually SELLS RECORDS you may want to actually write some music that the masses can at least make 1+1 out of. Otherwise your just gonna come across as another inde-horn rim complaining that "People Just Don't Get It".

My suggestion to "The Silver Jews"...Drop the headache drone and actually learn how to play the Country Music that your so obviously milking for your ride on the Gravy Train.

what a hypocritical douche, "Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea is Berman's sixth offering in a career spanning two decades" but he doesn't "want to be like Pearl Jam, taking up space where other younger bands could come through"

this is, as you were, a paradox nonsense

Older music will ALWAYS be better than newer music. No shit a top 10 consisted of older bands. Why doesn't it consist of newer music? Probably because most newer music sucks ass.

Why would anyone put a time limit on their own career by saying something like this? It's like he's saying, "hey, regardless of whether I'm still making good and relevant music, I plan on shutting up and stepping aside to let the young uns come up when I'm no longer young (whenever that is)." Well, I'm real glad that people like Brother Neil didn't do that, eh? In fact, how did Pearl Jam come up if people like Mr. Young were standing in the way? What a strange comment from several angles...
  • thats just bullshit... nothing against him personally... i enjoy some of his music... but the truth of the matter is that younger bands that truly DESERVE recognition will get it... and those that dont surely cant blame it on pearl jam... its just part of the industry... always has been... as it is, id say TOO MANY younger bands are getting undeserved credit (vampire weekend, plain white t's, one republic, etc.) while pearl jam continues to exist almost exclusively for their fans and for themselves... why a member of such an obscure little indie band would give a fuck about older names hogging the spotlight is completely beyond me and it really just goes to show his own insincerity and insecurities

  • It probably just bugs the shit out of him that a lot of his indie scene actually digs Pearl Jam.

I mean, he must hate walking into Easy Street and seeing Ed and PJ all over the place. He probably feels they're like some major label band sipping on his prestigious indie cool-aid.

Then again.....I've never heard of them. If they're good, they have an audience. Kinda glad PJ never said that someone like Neil Young is just "taking up space."

i totally agree with this. its like this in life for anyone. do great athletes or doctors just step down when those below them aren't nearly good enough to fill their shoes and say "here you go young fella your turn now." No. this guy is obviously just trying to get a rise out of people because he needs publicity any way he can get it. Or he's just not smart. or both.
    Music for Rhinos
  • Just bitter and jealous that neither Eddie or any of the guys have given a shout out to them...PJ is pretty good at promoting and giving opportunities to younger/newer bands.

Maybe this moron is jealous that he will never make relevant music as long as PJ has... His comment is so stupid...stupid...stupid... if wants to go out on top, well get there first
  • I can deal with douchebag musicians having douchebag opinions if the music is good. Hell, some of my favorite artists are pricks. But to say something like that then turn out crap (watch the video in the link if you don't believe me) is just wasting my time.

Who the fuck is this guy to tell other bands that they should Step Down or Step Aside?

Music is Art. Musicians are Artists

It's not a fucking lineup at a 10 cent Peep Show in The Bowery District. You don't move away or get out of line so some other cat can get a peep.

What kind of fucking logic is that?

You keep chasing your art. It's a lifelong commitment and the work is never done.

Age has got fuck all to do with it.

If you are good enough at your craft then you get recognized. It's just as simple as that.

Did anyone ever tell Neil Young to step aside? Did anyone ever tell Bob Dylan, Springsteen, and Tom Petty?

    FUCK NO!!
