Dead Soul Lady

Cold
Flat on my back
Terrible pain in my chest
Looking along the dirt walls to pitch black sky
Heavy breathing above
Tired from her wicked work
She stops for a cigarette
Metallic scratch, flash of wavering light
She steps to the edge
Takes a long deep drag and tosses the burning ember in with me
I could almost laugh at the irony
A demented smile release the smoke from her mouth
My mind drifting back to when I was child
Before I went astray, before I lost faith
Back to a time filled with hope and promise
Arms raised to the sky
Spinning under the sun
Dancing to the music of the wind blowing threw the trees
Singing some made up song to the drifting clouds above
Something about being alive somewhere in the silly lyrics
My thoughts interrupted by a shovel load of soil slung in my face
Daunt reality returns to awareness of where I am
I fell prey to this heartless woman
Her calm quiet ease caught me lost and alone
Her beauty dizzied me, her grace consumed me
Now I lay dying in agony for have met the dead soul lady

You know you are in trouble when you start to buy your own bullshit.
