Who Shut the Lights Out On Eden
walking in the darkness
searching for illumination in the city of eden
where the hollow sobs of a broken woman echoes
through the streets “ o why are my eyes dying”
she is tying off to chase away those nagging memories
of her crying baby that is lying dead on the floor
the light does not shine here
this angel will never run through the parks of eden
where the children laugh and play
amongst the broken crack pipes and spent bullet casings
sitting on a bench
a silent man watching the boys and girls
with his twisted hopes and deviled grin
no light to shine on his hands
that are ready to steal their innocents
and lick the sweetness from his fingertips
on the corner
a barky little man with bible firm in hand
yells out to the citizens of eden
“i know the way, i can lead you there”
the crowd gathers in fervent anticipation
only to find a solicitor of false hope
as his wondering eyes slip past them
to the young whore across the way
light does not shine on his lusting desires
just a taste of her forbidden fruit
the dishearten congregation disperses
to leave him with his all to human thoughts
treading through the streets of eden
amidst the good and evil
hard to tell which is which
with the absence of light
