The Death of Cooties and the Birth of Heartache
I bid you farewell
You’ve lost the joy in play
Found the taste of bitter
as she walked away
Yesterday your playground nemesis
Today holding hands in the warm spring sun
A turn of events you couldn’t have foreseen
She just smiled and waved you along
Your friends they called you back
It was to late you were already gone
Slipped behind the old willow tree
There you stood timid and unsure
Nervous eyes finally settle on her
You had seen her before today
Yet it was like the first time
You had never noticed
Her long golden hair ,oval shaped face,
soft pale skin
Then to her light green eyes you stared
You couldn’t look away
Trembling hearts, approaching faces,
lips sweet anticipation
Silhouette showed them as one
Innocents touching innocents
Time, perfect and still
But fate he swung at the swing set
Feet reaching for endless sky
Climbing higher than anyone ever dared
Everybody’s attention drawn to this ascending daredevil
Then he let go
Free and soaring into blue heaven
just long enough to steal your angel
I welcome you
young and broken hearted
Swallow it down
for you have just started
