she walks along the shore not far from where they found his car. the wind whipped around her and she hugged herself to ward off the chill. she wanted to think that he was just hiding somewhere and that he hadnt done what everyone was assuming he had. when the call came and they said theyd found his car, she was sure her heart stopped beating. why hadnt they said theyd found him? well... basically cause they hadn't. the car was stuck in the sand near the high tide mark. now it sat twenty metres from the breaking waves. the keys still in the ignition and the left rear passenger door open. papers and empty bottles littered the floor and several CDs floated amongst the rubbish free from their cases. there was no sign of him. footsteps walking away were probably his but no one knew for sure. as she got closer to the car she stopped. a barricade had been erected around it and a small group of nosy parkers huddled close together against the wind. it would be high tide again soon and she didnt want to think what that meant. she hoped that if he had done what was being speculated, that his body never washed up. she'd rather think of the ocean reclaiming a lost soul than have it regurgitate a bloated unrecognisable sack of bones that had been fed on by the fishes.

take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me

hi cate
As she slams the door in his drunken face
And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green
she felt such anger towards him. but it was soon replaced by feelings and thoughts of longoing. of wanting him to be with her. to be alive. if only so she could chastise him herself, for his insensitivity. she drank that night. and she used his absence as her excuse, was it fair? she didnt care. all she knew was that she was alone and the only way she knew how to cope was to drink. and so she did.
