she walks along the path less travelled
and every step is like her last breath
she sees the end but can't get there quick enough
and she remembers.
remembers how he returned to her, more than once
she didn't know what she wanted yet even so
she knew she'd never find it
he was her light, a calming presence
but now he lays extinguished upon a bed of nails
she never thought he'd be gone. he said he'd always be there
how foolish on both their parts to think it could continue
she thinks of him and smiles to herself, wishing him well
she will always take notice but keep her thoughts to herself
the distance between them grows ever increasing
she feels the coolness of the woods envelope her
and she is at a somewhat uneasy peace.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
