as she opens the door a blast of air conditioned air assaults her, though after such an unseasonably humid day, it is a welcome relief. she spots him across the room. she steps to the side and watches him work. after a couple of minutes he notices her and smiles. then his attention is grabbed by a customer. she ambles up to the bar and is served by someone else. she takes her drink and finds a place to sit as far from the bar as she can manage. she tries not to look at him but she can't help herself. when she thinks he is not looking she watches him. she writes in her notebook and drinks her liquor. lost in thought she allows him to distract her. the thoughts she is lost in have nothing to do with her writing. she smiles. when she next approaches the bar and orders another drink, he asks what she was smiling about. she stands on her tiptoes and brings her lips close to his ear. she tells him. he pours her a double. she tells him to keep the change and retreats back to her table. he spends the rest of the night counting down the minutes until closing time.
