the candle that i light for you today
is for my own protection
i light it to watch the darkness fade
and the ghosts i fear to mention
you left a gap that's hard to fill
and a tear in my soul
what wounds a heart
turns it to dust
are lies trapped hiding
to avoid all detection
you never kissed my lips
or said goodbye one last time
the ache i feel weighs heavy
and i think of your eternal sleep
i used to kick and scream and cry
and dig my nails in deep
and then with time i got past all that
for peace within myself
you could've done that too i guess
but just couldn't find the strength
