sunday night arrives
and still you're not here
we've been waiting all weekend
there hasn't been a word
we want to know that you're alright
we don't want to think the worst
but you make it hard
every time we see your face
it's like the weight of the world
has taken a break
upon shoulders that just can't
bear the weight
why is it you never let us in
why is it you don't talk to anyone
the footprints you seem not to have left
have all been washed away
the secrets you keep locked away
can't break through to share
so we sit and wait
like we've done so many times before
autumn leaves are turning
some falling from the sky
it's now monday morning
and still not seen
nor anywhere to be found
a broken bike lay on the front lawn
a frost lay cold upon the ground
