even in my sleep
i can't escape
the ties that bind
and break my heart
illusions crumble
my soul stripped bare
a dark cloud closing in
swallows me whole
a place i'm familiar with
but still confused by
i wish i could explain it
if i stay here long enough
a sudden flash
and recognition
a clarity to solve
break the knots
unburden myself
a glimmer of hope
a promise of an end
to the loneliness
a freedom
unfulfilled.
