to consume
to loot
to ransack
to buy
to live with stuff
that
seems to get you high
do you need it
or just want it
could you live without it
or would you just die
if there was nothing you needed
would that be okay
could you live like that
or would anxiety rise
are you branded
defined by your buys
has life got you stranded
believing the lies
to consume
to loot
to ransack
to buy
to consume
to loot
to die inside.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

  • I feel where you're coming from, catefrances. There are many a day I just want to get rid of all my possessions and flee to the hills!!! :)

Like my little sister's pals (in their mid twenties), who run around with their glitzy clothes and cell phones and prada bags and so on. All they seem to talk about is thier clothes, and how much they spent, and where they shopped, and they read up on all the movie and rock star gossip and that's all they can talk about....makes my head spin! It's so superficial and sad! I sometimes wonder what the future has in store for them and just hope they grow up and get real.

"Imagine no possessions, I wonder if you can?" - your poem made me think of John Lennon's "Imagine" :)
Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything, that's how the light gets in. - Leonard Cohen

I really liked this one too. Things would be alot easier without all that "stuff". I've never kept up with the latest trends because I don't really care what they are-they always change. And too much "stuff" in your house means more to clean and since I'm the one that cleans, I can live without it!
I find myself donating my toddlers toys to goodwill etc. because they get bored with them easily and they sit and never play with them. They are like me-more happy with a piece of paper and paints, magic markers, and crayons or out enjoying nature and that's something that we can do together. It means alot more.

you know, i stood in the middle of Target the other day with two DVDs in my hand trying to convince myself to buy them. after about ten minutes i found no reason to justify their purchase. so i put them back on the shelf and left. sometimes it annoys me that i can't just buy something for the sake of it. it's not that i haven't bought DVDs before or that i don't buy things, it's just that it takes a lot of convincing on my part to get to the cash register.
oh the DVDs were a song for bobby long and crash.
