she slowly walks away
her head hung down so low
she doesn't know where it all went wrong
but what they had has finally gone
she held fast to both their dreams
but once too many he shattered everything
she listens to the sad songs
and pretends she's better off
she knows that ain't the truth
but she says it out loud just to survive
she took her books and jackets
and left him with the rest
she started out with nothing
and so will leave him just the same
she lies awake til sunrise
her eyes red from crying
her makeup wrecked by the tears
he used to read her kerouac, jim carroll and quote ayn rand
which never made any sense
the sound of his voice is what made it sweet
but now all she's left with now is memories
and a lock of his hair she cut while he was asleep
she doesn't even think that's weird nor does she really care
she'll keep it hidden far from view and hold onto all she can
she slowly walks the deserted streets
on her way to who knows where.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

He wakes up and she is gone. Normally, he wouldn't raise an eyebrow. She has done this before, but something feels different. They had a fight, no so different from other fights. He threw her notebook and told her to get a life, "Your not a fucking writer, this shit is a waste of time" he said. She fought back but barely. Her head slung low like a stunned prize fighter, as her eyes welled up with tears. The truth was he loved her writing. He wished he could write like that. Now he wanted to tell her, but she was gone. He put on some Jeff Buckley, and lit the kettle. He had the urge to read some Buckowski, but it wasn't on the shelf. Neither were the rest of her books. He felt sick in the moment he realized they were all gone. He never loved another the way he did her, and now she was gone. He grabbed an old letter she had written him, and sobbed as he read it. "What beautiful writing", he thought.

    too late he realised
    she won't be back
he'll not get a second chance
    she walks the same streets
    but he won't approach
    her progress like a movie
    he can't take part in
    as winter turns to spring
    and spring to summer days
he slowly drowns as she floats
above it all on her way
    to who knows where.

This movie plays in his head on a constant loop
Its ending is always the same
    Yet everyday he believes
the conclusion might change this time
    Insanity, he heard
    was repeating the same actions
and hoping for a different outcome
It always sounded trite to him
but right now, it made perfect sense

he couldn't believe she chose to walk the same streets. but then again, he could. he was such a fool at times. and this time had lasted a few months so far. he knows he should apologise but he also knows she'd smell his desperation. he watches her as she passes, lost in her own world. he had to admit to himself that she looked good. real good. the jerk in him put it down to her wanting to rub it in his face. to show him that she didnt need him. truth was, she never needed him. she was him because she wanted to be. but in a drunken tirade he'd knocked her down, metaphorically speaking of course, made her feel stupid. there was no excuse for that. no excuse at all.

and still he watches. too afraid of himself to approach. all these months later and he is no closer to being where he wants to be. she hears things from mutual friends and sighs. she would have given him anything he asked. as it was she gave him everything she had. he gave nothing back. or not enough. and she grew tired of waiting. his tantrums and his taunts worte her down to where she started to doubt herself. she knew then she had to leave. he never saw the tears she cried. would he have even cared. she heard he tried to fill the void with so many bad habits and she was almost beyond caring. alone in his room at night he prays to a non existent god to bring her back to him. his prayers go unanswered because of a lack of faith in himself. did he know only he could bring her back to him? or like a 5 year old did he think that she would fall from the sky like a gift from the heavens?
