the basement has flooded again
the voices upstairs get inside my head
my space is too small
and it's hard for me to breathe
i need to get away
to somewhere some place
anywhere but here
i tell myself in nightly prayers
that i'm okay and it'll work out in the end
but lately i've been fighting demons
that tell me this is the end
i turn my back and walk away
they try to catch up but i'm too fast for them
i lay down late at night and stare into the dark
pull the blanket high around my neck
my hand over my heart
i wonder what it is i want
and how i can get me there
i place a pillow over my face
it's not so hard for me to breathe
the basement again is flooded
but it's not time for me to drown.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
