she waits beside the garden gate
and hopes that he'll come soon
she watches butterflies flitting by
the lilacs are in bloom
the sun rises high on a meadow green
it's warmth just fills her soul
she remembers when they'd walk hand in hand
stealing kisses now and then
he swore he'd never leave her
she still believes him now as then
she hears gravel crunching under foot
and turns to find him by her side
he smiles, she returns it
a kiss on her button nose he leaves
she wraps her arms around him
to enjoy this late summer bliss
