are you always one step behind?
when you put your foot down to rest
do you discover that where you hoped
to be is now some place else
someplace out of reach?

when you drag yourself out of the gutter
and look skyward towards the stars
do you discover that the neon light
and noise pollution blinds your eyes
and your mind and you just get left behind?
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

    Too much traffic in neon night skies leaves me feeling incomplete too. Being away from the city, say, out camping, where there are very little people and the messes they make, makes me feel much more whole and in tune, that's for sure! :) It's like in moving "forward", sometimes we forget what's important--like looking after our planet and the other people and creatures who inhabit it and stuff like that--so, really, we are just stepping back. Anyway, I'll stop babbling! This is what was going on in my head when I was reading your poem. :) I like it! :)
