he holds her close to him
her hand in his
his other rests on her back
they dance in the light
he whispers words she longs to hear
he wants her, she knows
to be only his
the song plays out
she steps away
he holds her fast
her escape he tries to delay
she looks at him
a sadness on her face
she needs this
he doesn't understand
she loves him
he calls her a liar
he loves her
stay he pleads
she sighs. she can't
now he's the one
he turns his back and walks away.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

"so sadly he watched the show,
    seein' what she became,
    a child's rein,
    yes too much pain."

this is a sad, bittersweet poem, cate. for me, you've captured so well that moment when both sides realize truth. that it's over and nothing will change.
Down the street you can hear her scream youre a disgrace
As she slams the door in his drunken face
    And now he stands outside
And all the neighbours start to gossip and drool
He cries oh, girl you must be mad,
What happened to the sweet love you and me had?
Against the door he leans and starts a scene,
And his tears fall and burn the garden green

but that's the thing j. she doesn't want it to be over. she feels she can love two men. whether she can or not, he's not into sharing her. so he walks away.

understood. it's somewhat like the whim written about by Warren Zevon in his song, 'Hasten Down The Wind'

but it is over, because he walked away. and he won't be coming back.

    unless you re-write it :D
