outside the rain falls steadily
while inside my heart burns like wildfire
i'm learning valuable lessons
i'm learning not to die
i'm learning in order to finally live
i have to set things free
i can't hold on too tightly
cause it's then i forget to breathe
i'm learning that love comes different ways
and it's not always in our control
i'm learning give more freely
and expect nothing in return
i'm learning that others' expectations stay low
and that they raise their hopes sky high
but i never could live like that
my head's always been high in the clouds
if someone wants to stay, they will
and you have to give them space
but if they want to walk away
well there's never a good time for that
so now with this new found knowledge
i smile, or at least i try to anyway
and if that's what you want i'll give you all your freedom
so that you don't suffocate.
