she stands in the half moonlight. leaning against the wall she waits. she knows he walks this way. he told her so. it is past midnight and she loves this time. the earth is sleeping and gently breathing. the hordes are secure in their homes or so they like to think. she watches him as he approaches on the opposite side of the road. he thinks he is alone, listening to music on his portable player. she smiles to herself. he crosses the road diagonally, so his path will bring him past her. just as he brings his back foot up onto the footpath she speaks. he stops and looks at her. then he smiles. he recognises her. he steps closer to her, all the while wrapping his headphone cord around the body of his mp3 player. he pockets it and reaches out, resting his hand on her hip. 'so this is what it's like to be stalked'. she just smiles at his words. he looks up and down the street to see if they are alone. she leans back against the wall. 'anywhere you need to be right now?' he shakes his head. 'just with you'. taking his hand, she raises it to her lips kissing it and leads him towards the cemetery. she had told him of this fantasy before, but he doubted even she had the gall to actually go through with it. he was wrong. she didn't tell him she'd done it before because she didn't think it was something he needed to know. to her, the past was irrelevant. it had no meaning for them. all that mattered was what was happening now, between them. when she asked him if he trusted her, he managed to breath out a 'yes'. she didn't smile this time. she just closed the gap between them. later at home in his bed he looked across at the sleeping form of his partner beside him. as he rolled back over away from her, he wondered when he would see his lover again. he smiled. and closed his eyes.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

Cate, apart from liking the piece, may I just make one remark?
Try defining more paragraphs, as this form is not easy to read, certainly on a computer screen. (they tell us these things in class too and it's just a suggestion)
It might improve the readability ;)

  • I agree with Jamal... I have to admit I only skimmed through that because I just find it too hard to read. Sorry Cate...
"this one, anytime I say love if you wanna say love, uh, say it, and if you say it you might as well say it loud, and if you don't feel like sayin' it, don't say it, but if you feel it, certainly say it..."

NOTE: Everything I write in the P,P&M section are intended to be songs, not poetry.
