they circle each other like time honoured foes
she so unsure, he like a predator moving in for the final kill
so many words to say and not the courage to utter a single one
he sees her out of the corner of his eye and waits
he watches her approach stop and retreat
he smiles to himself he knows she hasn’t the nerve
it energises him
suddenly tired of her presence he turns on her

WHAT!?

nothing.
you looked like you had something to say

she shakes her head

no. nothing

the words, she keeps within
she leaves the room
what was it she was waiting for?
could she ever get it from him
she didn’t know

there was a time when he was everything to her and she to him
now she feels like nothing but she can’t find…

no way

no better way

he knows her dilemma
he thrives on it

when she hears the door close
she cries, wraps her arms around herself
tired of the words inside her head

she stares at the clock
watches as
her life

counts

down

to

nought

she hates what she’s become
what she’s become in his presence

nothing.

just nothing.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say
