bottled violence

he drinks to numb
the pain he inflicts
on her when she
steps out of line.
she ignores his words
and pays the price.
a bruise blossoms under her eye.
she cries alone
cause no one cares
she doesn't tell a soul
she says she tripped
and fell and they believe.
he drinks his bottle
and aims the empty
squarely at her head.
the pills she swallows
don't do a thing
and she wishes she was dead.
one late night he
came home angry,
a storm washing through the door.
she braced herself
and stood her ground
and yelled at him, NO MORE!!!
inside she prayed
he'd heed her plea.
he looked at her
with a grotesque smile
and brought her to her knees.
she had the nous
to lay down dead
and still now he drinks
to numb the pain
but she won't step
out of line again.
hear my name
take a good look
this could be the day
hold my hand
lie beside me
i just need to say

i got the title for this one from a book i'm reading at the moment. the book is called dance of days and it's about the punk scene in DC. i can't remember who sang the song and needless to say i haven't heard it. i just thought the title spoke to me. :)

It's Bottled Violence by Minor Threat. its a really good song. you should check it out if you are interested in DC punk. Ian MacKaye from Minor Threat was also in Embrace, the band that had a song that your book took its title from.

you're welcome, and thank you. this thread reminded me to listen to Minor Threat's first EP again and I've been in a pretty energetic mood ever since :D

anyway, I thought your poem was very good.
